PROCEDURE
1. | CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR LH INSTALLATION |
(a) Turn the ignition switch off. |
|
(b) Check the rear speed sensor LH installation.
OK:
There is no clearance between the rear speed sensor LH and rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
The installation bolt is tightened properly.
Torque
8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf)
NG | REINSTALL OR REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH |
|
2. | CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR LH (CHECK FOR FOREIGN MATTER) |
(a) Remove the rear speed sensor LH.
(b) Check the rear speed sensor LH tip.
OK:
The rear speed sensor LH tip is free of scratches, oil, and foreign matter.
NOTICE:
NG | CLEAN OR REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH |
|
3. | READ VALUE USING GTS (RL WHEEL SPEED) |
(a) Operate the GTS to check the Data List.
Chassis > Brake > Data List Tester Display | Measurement Item | Range | Normal Condition | Diagnostic Note |
---|---|---|---|---|
RL Wheel Speed | Rear wheel speed sensor LH reading | Min.: 0.0 km/h (0.0 mph) Max.: 6553.5 km/h (4072 mph) | Vehicle stopped: 0.0 km/h (0.0 mph) | When driving at constant speed: No large fluctuations |

RL Wheel Speed |
(b) Drive the vehicle and perform a road test.
(c) Check the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the GTS.
HINT:
Factors that affect the indicated vehicle speed include tire size, tire pressure, and tire wear. The speed indicated on the speedometer has an allowable margin of error. This can be tested using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer). For details about testing and the margin of error, see the reference chart.

OK:
The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the GTS is similar to the speed indicated on the speedometer.
OK | USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK |
|
4. | CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR SPEED SENSOR LH - BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) |
(a) Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.
OK:
The connector is securely connected.
(b) Disconnect the A108 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
(c) Disconnect the O117 rear speed sensor LH connector.
(d) Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.
OK:
No deformation or corrosion.
(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection | Condition | Specified Condition |
---|---|---|
O117-2 (RL+) - A108-29 (RL+) | Always | Below 1 Ω |
O117-2 (RL+) or A108-29 (RL+) - Body ground | Always | 10 kΩ or higher |
O117-1 (RL-) - A108-28 (RL-) | Always | Below 1 Ω |
O117-1 (RL-) or A108-28 (RL-) - Body ground | Always | 10 kΩ or higher |
NG | REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR |
|
5. | CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR ROTOR LH (CHECK FOR FOREIGN MATTER) |
(a) Remove the component with the rear speed sensor rotor LH.
(b) Check the rear speed sensor rotor LH.
OK:
The rear speed sensor rotor LH is free of scratches, oil, and foreign matter.
NOTICE:
HINT:
Result | Proceed to |
---|---|
OK | A |
NG (The rear speed sensor rotor LH is damaged.) | B |
NG (There is foreign matter on the rear speed sensor rotor LH.) | C |
A | REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH |
B | REPLACE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY LH |
C | CLEAN REAR SPEED SENSOR ROTOR LH |
No special break-in is necessary, but a few precautions in the first 600 miles (1,000 km) may add to the performance, economy, and life of the vehicle.
Do not race the engine. Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time. Do not drive constantly at full-throttle or high engine rpm for extended periods of time. Avoid unnecessary hard stops. Avoid full-throttle starts.
