PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY

2. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR

(a) Disconnect the transmission revolution sensor connector.

(b) Remove the bolt and transmission revolution sensor from the manual transaxle assembly.

(c) Remove the O-ring from the transmission revolution sensor.

1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR

(a) Connect the auxiliary battery to the transmission revolution sensor as shown in the illustration.

5 mm or less

(b) Wave a magnetic object left and right in front of the transmission revolution sensor tip (5 mm (0.197 in.) or less) to change the high/low signals while measuring the current.

NOTICE:

Make sure to wave the magnetic object during the inspection. The current will not change without waving the magnetic object as indicated by the arrow in the illustration.

(c) Measure the current according to the value(s) in the table below.

If the result is not as specified, replace the transmission revolution sensor.

Installation

INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR

(a) Clean the bolt and installation hole in the manual transmission case.

(b) Coat a new O-ring with gear oil and install it to the transmission revolution sensor.

(c) Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads on the end of the bolt.

Adhesive:

Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

NOTICE:

Make sure to install the bolt immediately after applying adhesive to prevent foreign matter from attaching to it.

(d) Install the transmission revolution sensor to the manual transaxle assembly with the bolt.

Torque:

7.8 N·m {80 kgf·cm, 69 in·lbf}

(e) Connect the transmission revolution sensor connector.
