ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT

(a) Remove the front door scuff plate LH.

(b) Remove the cowl side trim board LH.

Click here

(c) Turn back the floor carpet.

(d) Turn back the dash panel insulator assembly.

(e) Check that the clutch pedal height is correct.

Clutch pedal height from floor panel:

154.8 to 174.8 mm (6.09 to 6.88 in.)

  • If the result is not as specified, bleed the clutch line and perform the inspection again.
  • If the result is not as specified after bleeding the clutch line, replace the clutch master cylinder assembly.

(f) Install the dash panel insulator assembly.

(g) Install the floor carpet.

(h) Install the cowl side trim board LH.

2. INSPECT CLUTCH PEDAL FREE PLAY

(a) Check that the clutch pedal free play is correct.

HINT:

Pay close attention to the change in resistance to distinguish clutch pedal free play while performing the inspection.

(1) Depress the clutch pedal until clutch resistance begins to be felt.

Clutch pedal free play (Reference):

3 to 15 mm (0.118 to 0.591 in.)

  • If the result is not as specified, bleed the clutch line and perform the inspection again.
  • If the result is not as specified after bleeding the clutch line, replace the clutch master cylinder assembly.

3. INSPECT CLUTCH RELEASE POINT

CAUTION:

When checking the clutch release point, ensure that the vehicle is secure.

(a) Check the clutch release point.

(1) Be sure to apply the parking brake and secure the wheels using wheel chocks.

(2) Start the engine and run it at idle.

(3) Without depressing the clutch pedal, slowly move the shift lever to reverse until the gears contact.

(4) Gradually depress the clutch pedal and measure the stroke distance from the point that the gear noise stops (release point) up to the full stroke end position.

Standard distance:

25 mm (0.984 in.) or more (from clutch pedal stroke end position to release point)

Clutch pedal stroke at 200 N (20 kgf, 45.0 lbf):

Reference

141 to 151 mm (5.55 to 5.94 in.)

If the distance is not as specified, perform the following procedure:

  • Check the clutch pedal height.
  • Check the clutch pedal free play.
  • Bleed the clutch line.
  • Check the clutch cover assembly and the clutch disc assembly.
