Toyota Yaris: Starting the Engine / Emergency Operation for Starting the Engine
If the KEY warning light (red) illuminates, or the push button start
indicator light (amber) flashes, this could indicate that the engine may not
start using the usual starting method. Have your vehicle inspected at
your Toyota dealer as soon as possible. If this occurs, the engine can
be force-started. Press and hold the push button start until the engine
starts. Other procedures necessary for starting the engine such as
having the key in the cabin, and depressing the clutch pedal (manual
transaxle) or the brake pedal (automatic transaxle) are required.
If the engine cannot be started due to a dead key battery, the engine
can be started using the following procedure:
Continue to depress the brake pedal firmly until the engine has
completely started...
Stop the vehicle completely.
Manual transaxle:
Shift into neutral and set the parking brake.Automatic transaxle:
Shift the selector lever to the P position and set the parking brake...
Other information:
The system operates only when the driver is in the vehicle or within
operational range while the key is being carried.

Without the advanced keyless function
Starting the engine may be possible even if the key is outside of the
vehicle
and extremely close to a door and window, however, always start the engine
from the driver’s seat...
The side air bags are mounted in the outboard sides of the front
seatbacks.
When the air bag crash sensors
detect a side impact of greater
than moderate force, the system inflates the side air bag
only on the side in which the
vehicle was hit...
